Unlike the continental European countries that faced the Revolution and the Restoration, the first half of the 19th century was for England a period of reforme. The middle class was represented in the Parlament. Is remarkable that Thomas Wilson, the new owner from 1801 of the New Lansdowne Club, born in Whitechapel, was both a merchant and a politician.
